Maintenance Dredging of Hudson River Federal Navigation Project Troy Federal Lock & Dam, Troy, New York Market Survey Background Information The New York District (NAN) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) proposes to perform maintenance dredging of the Hudson River Federal Navigation Project. The dredged material will be transported and placed into a New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) approved contractor provided upland dredge material placement site. The proposed maintenance dredging will remove approximately 10,000 cubic yards of critical shoals from the Troy Lock & Dock dredging area. Dredging will be required to a depth of -14 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) plus 1-foot allowable over depth. The dredged material is expected to consist primarily of sand and silt. Due to the conditions found in the water quality certificate, the proposed work may be performed by utilizing a mechanical dredge with a closed clamshell environmental bucket. Additionally, multiple barges and tugboats may be needed to perform the work during the dredging and unloading/placement operations.
