The Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division, China Lake, CA intends to procure on an other than full and open competition basis the following: 500lbs Carbon Phenolic Molding Compound with temperature-controlled delivery This procurement is sole sourced to Park Aerospace Corp. 400 Old Country RD STE 409, Westbury, New York 11590-5119, due to the unique requirements of DoD platforms, which mandate full qualification by each program with varying standards. Park Aerospace Corp. is the sole North American provider of a carbon phenolic material prototyped using the same manufacturing process as the previously qualified, unavailable material, enabling it to serve as a drop-in replacement. This material requires minimal qualification testing, while alternatives from other vendors would require extensive testing, estimated to take 1 year or more, which would interfere with critical mission schedules and program timelines.
