The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Radiation Oncology Branch (ROB), designs and conducts pre-clinical and clinical research on the biologic and therapeutic effects of radiation therapy. ROB treats patients via radiosurgery, intensity-modulated 3-D conformal radiotherapy (IMRT), real-time dose measurement, brachytherapy, and magnetic resonance (MR)-guided procedures in accordance with approved clinical protocols. These treatments are conducted using a Varian linear accelerator system that has two (2) TrueBeam STX linear accelerator platforms which deliver a precise, highly localized radiation dose in order to treat the prescribed cancerous target volume while sparing adjacent, healthy tissues to the maximum extent possible.
